Taos Snowshoe Adventures
is pleased to offer a unique opportunity to snowshoe to a backcountry
yurt, and spend the night in the heart of New Mexico's pristine
wilderness!
The
Bull of the Woods yurt is a 24' diameter, insulated canvas shelter
on a wooden platform, that sleeps up to 10 people, and is situated
in some of the most prime terrain for world class winter touring.
The yurt has beds with matresses, a full kitchen, propane lanterns,
and an airtight woodstove that burns all night long!
It's a 2 mile snowshoe through lush forests of Douglas Fir and
Englemann Spruce, along the Rio Hondo, to the Bull of the Woods
Meadow. The first part of the hike is challenging, but then gets
pretty easy, as you approach the meadow. The yurt is nestled in
a high mountain meadow, below New Mexico's tallest peaks, at 10,800'
above sea level. It is absolutely breathtaking, literally!
Upon
arrival we'll have lunch, and make the yurt our home for the night.
We may even have an opportunity for an afternoon hike to explore
the surrounding area. Evening activities include dinner, staying
warrm around the woodstove, games, reading, and good conversation.
After breakfast and a morning stroll the next day, we'll pack up
and head down the trail and start the jouney back to the vehicles.
Hearty meals are provided, from lunch on day 1, through breakfast
and snack on day 2. We usually return for a late lunch in the charming
alpine Village of Taos Ski Valley (not included). Snowshoe and pole
rentals, and extra warm sleeping bags included.
